The Flying Scot is currently the most active fleet at MBC with 30 boats plus 3 club-owned boats used for adult sailing lessons. Designed in the 1950s, the Scot is a durable, easy-to-sail, 19-foot pleasure craft with a main, jib and spinnaker. With its wide beam and lead-weighted centerboard, the Scot is very stable and can accommodate an outboard motor for cruising and day sailing. The boat has ample seating for the whole family. The Flying Scot Sailing Association maintains precise control over rigging and equipment options. For racers, this pro-active approach puts emphasis on sailing skill rather than the latest go-fast equipment. The boat also retains its value, and a 30-year-old Scot is often just as competitive on the race course as a brand new boat. Several fleet members have represented the Club with distinction by winning regattas at the local, regional and national level. The Full Moon Regatta, started in 1992, is one of the premiere events held yearly at the Club. If you are interested in learning more about this versatile boat, please contact the fleet captain(s). |
