The Monmouth Boat Club hosted the Flying Scot Atlantic Coast Championships and Greater New York District Championships last weekend and provided a great event for all involved. The Boat Club made arrangements with the Atlantic Highlands Yacht Club to utilize their facilities so the regatta could be sailed on Sandy Hook Bay. The venue provided the open water needed for longer courses than could be had on the Navesink river. Conditions were sunny with winds of 15 to 20 knots on the first day and 8 to 15 on the second day with enough shifts to keep all the competitors guessing.

Hospitality was evident throughout the regatta. A pizza party kicked off the event on Friday. The regatta dinner on Saturday was delicious, with great music provided by Robert Ender. The awards party on Sunday afternoon gave the Atlantic Highlands Yacht Club a chance to show off their bar overlooking Sandy Hook Bay and the New York skyline.

David Neff with crew Jason Hair were the big winners of the event, taking the title of Atlantic Coast Champions. In second were Dan Vought and crew David Watts. Third place went to Peter Sayia and his crew Russ Lines and Jackie Wilhelm.

Dan Vought won the Greater New York Districts, with Peter Sayia coming in second and Larry Nociolo coming in third sailing with Eileen Nociolo and Dave Whittle.

The Jack Orr trophy for most wins in the Greater New York Districts went to Brian Hayes and his crew Brian Hayes Jr.

Thanks to regatta chair Marc Gordon, PRO Les Hathaway, and the dozens of other volunteers who helped to make this such a great regatta.
