WoodPussy sailors from the Monmouth Boat Club, Red Bank, and the Shrewsbury Sailing and Yacht Club, Oceanport, squared off on the Navesink River May 9th for a renewal of the Solo Bowl Regatta.
A dozen boats sailed in heavy fog in two morning races and slightly better conditions in the afternoon as MBC took the top two positions. Dan Vought won the event with four points and finishes of 1-2-1. Cole Barney was second with 2-1-2 finishes.
SSYC sailors took the next two positions with Peter Coggins in third with 3-4-3 finishes and Jeff Jacobi finishing fourth with 4-3-4 finishes. MBC’s Taugh Lynch took the fifth spot with three fifth place finishes.
Principal Race Officer Dale Barney set two windward-leeward courses and an Olympic triangle in East-Southeast winds that averaged 8-10 mph. A fog rolled in from the ocean in mid-morning and stuck around for most of the day making navigation between race marks a challenge for competitors.
