Friday June 6th – 5PM – 9PM
On Friday evening, June 6, from 5pm to 9pm, the Navesink Maritime Heritage Association will host a party at Monmouth Boat Club celebrating the visit of the Onrust. The Onrust is a replica of a 45 foot sloop made in New Amsterdam (now New York) in 1614. The Onrust is visiting as part of the 350 anniversary of the state of New Jersey which was founded in 1664 when the British conquered New Netherlands from the Dutch. The purpose of the reception at Monmouth Boat Club is to thank the Sponsors who funded the visit of the Onrust. There is also room for 25 Monmouth Boat Club members and 25 members of the Navesink Maritime Heritage Association to attend. To reserve admission, email Gayle Horvath at firstname.lastname@example.org or call her at 732-687-6715.
Vessels such as the Onrust carried settlers from Gravesend, Long Island, who discovered the Monmouth County area in December of 1663. These small coastal sailing vessels also carried the many residents of Rhode Island and Long Island who moved to Monmouth County between 1665 and 1668.Information provided by Charles Gross – Rowing Fleet
